These are just a few quotes from our Feeding America clients about what FNS (food stamps) have meant to their health and the stability of their family. MANNA FoodBank FNS Outreach and the MANNA Food HelpLine assisted 1,284 households obtain benefits in 2014.
Over seventy percent of the households that sought food assistance in Western North Carolina last year were surviving on incomes below the poverty level. Food stamps provide a way for these households to purchase nutritious food and continue to pay for other necessities such as housing and health care.
The average household is on FNS benefits for 8 to 10 months, and the majority of the households contain an elderly person, a disabled person or a child.
