For Many WNC Families, No School Means No Lunch

“Sometimes, when it rains, it really pours.” — Angelina

For thousands of families across Western North Carolina depending on school meals to feed their children, summer is a stressful time of year.

Angelina never expected her family to be in crisis. Her husband’s full-time job and benefits covered their monthly living costs, but their budget had no cushion. Several unexpected medical bills from an emergency visit put them into a panic situation.

As summer approached, Angelina knew her family needed help. Their budget was already stretched to the breaking point and soon her daughters would lose access to their school’s meal program. Angelina’s family, representative of thousands of families in our area, reached out to a MANNA partner pantry for assistance.

Thanks to donors and friends like you, we were able to be there for Angelina and gave her access to the nutrition she needed to feed herself and her family. Groceries and other resources helped them bridge the gap until they were back on their feet again.

For many WNC families, no school means no lunch. With your help, we can feed more families like Angelina’s during the summer months when school is out. Kara, please make a gift, of any amount, to MANNA FoodBank today. You generosity will have twice the impact this year because all gifts received by June 30th will be matched, dollar for dollar, thanks to a generous $30,000 matching gift.

Together, we can have an immediate, meaningful impact on the life of a child by giving them a hunger-free summer.
